There are 3 phases leading to the distribution of a home network.
Phase 1
|
Start of the digitalization of home electronic devices; analog based era
|
Phase 2
|
Connection of high speed communication networks, acceleration of digitalization; era of the mixed network.
|
Phase 3
|
Digital era, a large capacity home network era
|
Phase 1
The digitalization of home electronic devices will start first. As mentioned earlier, there are no consumers currently wanting a home network. This is due to the fact that:
(1) There is no way to retrieve required contents.
(2) There are no necessary contents.
(3) There are no interesting applications, so consumers don't feel any need.
(4) Consumers are satisfied with the current conditions
The solution for this is that the infrastructure within a home, the appliances themselves (home electronic device infrastructure) must be changed. It is important to first ready an interface, and then to have applications and contents that are attractive and feel needed. At the same time, the internet must be used to build a consumer culture. As a way to do this, a low speed network may be proposed
With advances like these, the new needs listed above will be created rapidly. We believe FTTH is the way of the high speed communication network reaching the home.
Phase 2
With an acceleration of phone lines and connection speed, the rapid change of the consumer culture will begin.
With this change, the form of the home electronic device is likely to change greatly.
But the home is not like the office, and the appliances inside will not be changed all at once. Conventional analog devices will exist in large numbers at the start. Unless these can be utilized effectively, the growth of contents and applications will be negatively affected, and will not become a close part of life.
The constant change in how we use analog devices in between the new digital devices will occur in the phase 2 era. This period may be shorter than currently expected, possibly 3 to 5 years.
Phase 3
This is the era in which the digital culture will completely root itself. The consumer culture and the side that provides content, applications, and hardware will be focused on digital only. This is expected around 2008.
